Rob Serial

Explanation

This activity is used to rob a serial from one serial structure and install it in another.

If access control is established, you can remove only the serials to which you have access. Establishing access control is done by assigning a user to an access group defined in basic data. The access groups will be used to extend access to all or selected parts and serials in a structure. When a serial is robbed and installed in a serial structure, the new serial, as a result of the rob, will receive the access groups belonging to the parent serial in the structure. All the serials below in the structure, will also be updated with these access groups.

This activity is actually a combination of one removal and one installation. However, it will be carried out as one integrated activity. All rules regarding the operational status and configuration that apply to an installation of a serial, pertain to this activity. If the serial that is to be robbed is of the minimum configuration type, the operational condition for the parent serial of the structure will change to Non Operational

The following example illustrates the meaning of robbing a serial from a serial structure.

Assume that we have two engines, Engine 01 and Engine 02, that is installed in the same aircraft (they can also be installed in two different aircrafts). Engine 01 has a pump installed in it. Pump 03 is needed to get Engine 02 functioning as soon as possible. We will now rob the pump from Engine 01 and install it in Engine 02, the process is as follows; 

When a serial is robbed from a structure, the position from which the serial is removed (robbed) becomes an empty structure position while the position into which the serial is installed (robbing) becomes an installed structure position. In the above example assume that Pump 03 is installed in Structure Position 100 of Engine 1. This Pump will be removed and installed in Structure Position 10 of Engine 2. When a rob is performed, Structure Position 100 will become an empty structure position while Structure Position 10 becomes an installed structure position. Empty structure positions are used to indicate where expected serials or part are missing from the serial structure. Whether a structure position is installed or not can be identified by the value in the Item Installed check box. If this check box is selected, a serial exists in the structure position and this position is considered an installed structure position. If the check box is not selected, a serial does not exist in the structure position and it is considered an empty structure position.

Procedure

Use this procedure to rob a serial from a serial structure:

  1. Open the Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for the necessary structure.
  2. In the graphical object structure, select the structure position into which the serial is to be installed, right-click, point to Structure Changes, and then click Rob Component. The Rob Component assistant opens.

Note: This assistant can also be opened from the Consist Of tab, by right-clicking on a serial record, pointing to Structure Changes, and then clicking Rob Component. When you are working in this tab, and need to move down the structure, select the required serial record, right-click and then click Next Level until the required structure level is displayed.

  1. The vehicle ID, top part number and top serial number appear automatically in the Install or Swap into area.
  2. In the Structure Position field, enter the structure position in which the robbed serial is to be installed. Click List to select a structure position currently unoccupied.
  3. In the Remove or Swap from area, enter information for the serial that you want to rob from a structure.
  4. In the Vehicle ID field, enter the ID of the vehicle part from which you want to rob a serial. Click List to select a value. When a value in this field is entered, the values in the Top Part No and Top Serial No fields appear automatically. Alternatively, you can specify a value in the Top Part No field or the Top Serial No field directly.
  5. In the Part No/Rev field (Remove or Swap from area), enter the part number of the serial that is to be removed. When a value in this field is entered, the value in the Serial Number field appears automatically. 
  6. In the Workshop field, enter the workshop responsible for removing and installing the serial. Click List to select a valid value.
  7. If you want to connect robbing of the serial to a maintenance event, click List to select a valid value for the Mx Event Number field.
  8. In the Str. Change Date field, enter the date and time the structure change is to be performed.
  9. Select the Unscheduled Removal? check box if this structure change is to be an unscheduled removal.
  10. Select the Run in Batch? check box if you want access rights for the robbed serial to be updated through a batch job.
  11. Click Finish to close the assistant and perform the structure change.

Use this procedure to perform a structure change, i.e., rob a serial, for the structure of the serial on the work task:

  1. Open the Report In Work Order window and query (F3) for the desired work order.
  2. Click the Work Tasks tab, select the desired task, and then click the Task Card tab. Alternatively, the Work Task/Task Card tab can be used to perform these steps.
  3. Right-click and click Perform Structure Change. The Structure Changes - Select Action assistant step opens.
  4. Select Rob Component and then click Next. The Rob Component assistant step opens.
  5. The vehicle ID, top part number and top serial number appear automatically in the Install or Swap into area.
  6. In the Structure Position field, enter the structure position in which the robbed serial is to be installed. Click List to select a structure position currently unoccupied.
  7. In the Remove or Swap from area, enter information for the serial that you want to rob from a structure.
  8. In the Vehicle ID field, enter the ID of the vehicle part from which you want to rob a serial. Click List to select a value. When a value in this field is entered, the values in the Top Part No and Top Serial No fields appear automatically. Alternatively, you can specify a value in the Top Part No field or the Top Serial No field directly.
  9. In the Part No/Rev field (Remove or Swap from area), enter the part number of the serial that is to be removed. When a value in this field is entered, the value in the Serial Number field appears automatically. 
  10. The workshop to which the work order was distributed appears automatically in the Workshop field. If necessary, you can change to another workshop using the List of Values.
  11. In the Str. Change Date field, enter the correct date and time the structure change is to be performed.
  12. Click Finish to close the assistant and perform the structure change.

Use this procedure to perform a structure change, i.e., rob a serial from the structure of the vehicle on which the fault was reported:

  1. Open the Flight Log window and populate (F2) or query (F3) for your flight log number and/or serial.
  2. Click the Fault tab and select the relevant fault number from the Fault Number list.
  3. Right-click and click Perform Structure Change. The Structure Changes - Select Action assistant step opens.
  4. Verify that the Rob Component option is selected and then click Next. The Rob Component assistant step opens.
  5. Continue with steps 3 to 13 described in the in the first procedure listed above.
