Verify Resource Availability

Explanation

This activity is used to verify the resource availability for the defined work scope. Resource demands specified on the events included on a maintenance order will be transferred to the corresponding work tasks when distributing the maintenance order to IFS/Work Order Management. You can then verify resource availability and allocate the resources (i.e., person or tool/equipment) required to execute the work task.

This activity describes the procedure for manually allocating resources. It is also possible to allocate resources and monitor resource availability via the Allocate Resource window and the Resource Monitoring Gantt. For more information on the allocation and monitoring process, refer the help file Resource Allocation and Monitoring.

Note: For maintenance orders distributed as simplified work orders, the verification of resource availability will be a manual process. This information is registered in the system when finishing the relevant maintenance event.

Prerequisites

To perform this activity, a maintenance order must have been distributed to IFS/Work Order Management.

Procedure

Follow this procedure to manually allocate a resource to the work tasks planned on a work order:

  1. Open the Prepare Work Order window and search for the relevant work order. You can also use any of the following windows: Work Order Structure, Work Task, and Report In Work Order.
  2. Click the Work Tasks tab. Select the work task line, right-click and then click Assign Work. The Assign Work dialog box opens.
  3. In the upper table of the Allocations on Demands tab, select the resource demand record that is to be allocated.
  4. In the lower table of the tab, create a new record. Use the List of Values in the Allocated To field to select the required resource, i.e., person or tool/facility.
  5. Click Save to save the allocation and repeat above steps as required or click OK to save and close the dialog box.

There can be instances where additional resources are required to execute the work. Using the following procedure, it is possible to directly allocate a person or tool/equipment to the work task without specifying a resource demand line:

  2. Click the Work Tasks tab. Select the work task line, right-click and then click Assign Work. The Assign Work dialog box opens.
  3. Click the Direct Allocation tab and create a new record.
  4. Use the List of Values in the Allocated To field to select the required resource, i.e., person or tool/facility.
  5. Click Save to save the allocation and repeat above steps as required or click OK to save and close the dialog box.
