Manual Resource Allocation

Introduction

Resources can be manually allocated to a work task using three different methods. These two methods are available through the Assign Work dialog for each work task:

The third method is available through the Assign Multiple Tasks dialog by selecting multiple work orders or work tasks:

Allocation Concepts

Resources

Resources are persons, person groups, tool/equipment and tool/equipment groups which are defined in Application Base Setup/Enterprise/Resource/Resource Navigator.

Resource Constraints

In manual allocation, resource constraints are used to filter resources in the List of Values, but it is allowed to allocate resources, breaking the constraints by manually typing the Resource ID in the Allocated To field or from List of Values filtered by unselecting the Apply Constraint check box. When allocating resources to a resource demand, constraints are taken from both the work task and the resource demand. In direct allocation, constraints are taken from the work task.

The resource constraints are:

Resource Activities and Allocations

When a resource demand is added, resource activities are created in IFS/Enterprise/Resource for each required resource in the demand. When the Allocate on Demand method is used, allocations can be made on each resource activity.

Reallocation

Reallocation is considered as modifying an assignment's (1) allocated resource, (2) allocated start and finish time, or (3) allocated hours. There are general rules to follow when reallocating a work assignment, refer to Resource Reallocation for more details.
