Define Resource Type

Explanation

This activity is used to define the resource types that are valid for your company. Each resource type can be set up with information on the start and end locations for a work shift, maximum travel hours, overtime and snap time per shift, travel profile and costs such as scheduling cost per hour and scheduling cost per overtime hour and whether the lunches for the resource type should be transferred as flexible. The start and end locations are defined by using valid address IDs of the company.

Resource types are connected to the resources and provide the resource with default scheduling information. That is, if no resource specific data has been entered for a resource, the resource will inherit the scheduling data, i.e., scheduling cost, travel parameters and start and end locations, from the resource type. Active flag can be used to disable or enable a resource type. Only the active resource types are possible to connect for a resource. For more information refer to the activity Define Scheduling Resource.

Procedure

  1. Open the Basic Data for Scheduling window.
  2. Click the Resource Type tab and create a new record (F5).
  3. Verify that the correct company is in use. If not, right-click and click Change Company to change the company.
  4. In the Resource Type field, enter the ID of the resource type.
  5. In the Description field, enter a description of the resource type.
  6. In the Address ID Start field, enter the start location when logging into the shift. Use the List of Values to select a valid value.
  7. In the Address ID End field, enter the end location when logging off the shift. Use the List of Values to select a valid value.
  8. In the Scheduling Cost per Hour field, enter the cost per hour for the resource type.
  9. In the Scheduling Cost per Overtime Hour field, enter the cost per hour for the resource type when working overtime.
  10. In the Scheduling Cost per Km field, enter the cost per kilometer for the resource type.
  11. In the Max Travel Time (Hours) field, enter the maximum travel time the resource type is allowed to travel from his or her start location. The maximum distance is measured in hours.
  12. In the Max Travel To (Hours) field, enter the maximum unpaid travel value in hours at the start of the shift.
  13. In the Max Travel From (Hours) field, enter the maximum unpaid travel value in hours at the end of the shift.
  14. In the Out of Region Multiplier field, enter the multiplier that is to be applied to the value of an activity, for instance a work order, which is to be done by a resource outside his or her region. A value of 0 means that activities cannot be done outside the region. A value of 1 means that activities can freely be done outside the region and are as likely to be chosen as those activities within the region. The regions the resource should have access to are defined in the Scheduling Basic Data/Resource Region tab.
  15. In the Speed Factor field, enter the proportion of calculated travel time is to be used by the Scheduling Engine. If a value of 0.5 is entered, the Scheduling Engine will assume that half its estimated travel time is the actual travel time. If a value of 2 is entered, the Scheduling Engine will assume twice its estimated travel time is the actual travel time.
  16. In the Shift Utilization field, enter the shift utilization id that should be used for resource type.
  17. In the Utilization (%) field, enter in percentage how much work the resource type is allowed to be scheduled during a shift.
  18. If a resource logs on within the time defined in Snap Time Hours Per Shift field , it is assumed that the resource is logging on to the shift. Snap time is used in combination with the resource logging on and the commit rules of the Schedule Dispatch Service (SDS).
  19. In the Overtime Hours Per Shift field, enter the number of overtime hours that can be allocated to the resource per shift.
  20. In the Shift Cost field, enter the value for shift cost for the resource type.

  22. If lunches for the resource type should be transferred as flexible to the Scheduling Engine the Flexible Lunch check box should be selected.
  23. If breaks for the resource type should be transferred as flexible to the Scheduling Engine, the Flexible Break check box should be selected.
