Assign Work Assignment for Work Task

Explanation

This activity is used to create work assignments for the scheduled work task to the resources responsible for executing the work. A plan is a set of work task activities that have received an allocated start and an allocated end as well as the allocated resource.

Once the work tasks which are transferred to the Scheduling Engine are scheduled, an allocation plan is returned to IFS Applications. If the suggested plan is suitable you can assign the work task activity to the suggested resource who is to execute the work, or if not available to the user who is currently logged in to IFS Applications.  If the suggested plan does not meet the requirements, you can choose to wait for the next plan or manually change the plan in the Scheduling Workbench, which is the web based user interface for Planning and Scheduling Optimization. When the resource is assigned to the work task activity, a work assignment is created for the resource in status Assigned.

When work task activities are allocated to resources (the first stage of the scheduling, carried out by the Scheduling Engine), the activity only stays allocated to the particular resource for as long as the Scheduling Engine decides that this is the best solution, under the current plan and conditions. As time passes, and conditions change, the allocation may be changed.

Once a work assignment is created for the resource (the second stage of scheduling, carried out by the SDS or manually), the activity stays with the resource. The work assignment will be cancelled from the resource if the work assignment is cancelled or that the resource is unassigned (by the SDS or manually).

Work task activities that are scheduled by the SDS (Schedule Dispatch Service) automatically creates the work assignments suggested by the Scheduling Engine based on the given scheduling rules. Therefore, when such a work task activities is returned to IFS Applications the work assignment will be created and set to Assigned status.

Procedure

The following procedures can also be performed in the Scheduling/Allocation tab which is found in the Prepare Work Order/Work Tasks and Work Task windows.

Follow this procedure to create a work assignment for the resource scheduled in the Scheduling Engine:

  1. Open the Scheduled Work Tasks window and query (F3) for the required work task number.
  2. Observe that there can be multiple lines for the same work task depending on the number of resources demanded for the work task.
  3. Verify that a resource is shown in the Resource ID field, and that the scheduling status is Allocated.
  4. Right-click on the record and then click Assign.
  5. Verify that a work assignment is created for the work task for the resource and that the work assignment is set to Assigned status.
  6. Verify that the corresponding activity is set to Committed status in the Scheduling Workbench.

Follow this procedure to assign create a work assignment for the resource scheduled in the Scheduling Engine from the Work Task or Prepare Work Order/Work Tasks window:

  1. Open the Work Task window and query (F3) for the required work task number.
  2. Go to the Scheduling/Allocation-tab
  3. Right-click on the record for the suggested allocation from Scheduling and click Assign.
  4. Verify that a work assignment is created for the work task for the resource and that the work assignment is set to Assigned status.
  5. Verify that the corresponding activity is set to Committed status in the Scheduling Workbench.

Note: If scheduled by the SDS, the work task activities will be assigned automatically. Furthermore, it is also possible to manually assign work task activities in the Scheduling Workbench.
