Reserve Shipment Lines
Explanation
This activity is used to reserve the shipment lines
i.e. the quantities from source lines
connected to
the shipment. The quantity of a source line can be
connected to several shipments in parallel in order to handle a limited
transport capacity, a backorder situation where you want to prepare the next delivery
in advance, a customer requiring a certain delivery schedule etc. You can reserve
this quantity on the shipment
lines either
manually or automatically. Reserving the shipment lines manually means that
you decide how many parts will be reserved. You can also choose from which
inventory location the parts will be picked, regardless of what is stated in the
source order. As manual reservation is done online, you can ensure that the
parts are available and reserved immediately. However, you cannot reserve more
parts than stated in the
shipment line. Reservations may be changed at any time
until a pick list has been generated. Apart from making a manual reservation,
you can also un-reserve or change the reservation for parts already reserved.
The automatic reservation on the other hand will enable
you to reserve many lines at the same time either per
shipment or per shipments connected to a consolidated shipment. The reservation
will be done according to the automatic reservation logic i.e. according to
rules configured for FIFO, zone ranking, handling units etc. This is described
in detail in the About Reservation
Management. When reserving many lines at the same time, the system
automatically reserves a number of parts as compared to manual reservation where
you decide how many parts to reserve. A consolidated shipment is defined as
a single
departure of several shipments from the specified site, to all the delivery
addresses of the connected shipments. When reserving from the consolidated
shipment, it will be like reserving per shipment but for all connected shipments.
The connected shipments will be reserved
in load sequence order to prepare what is next to be
loaded first.
Note that shipment lines will also be reserved when you
do the reservation for the source line from the source object.
Prerequisites
- The shipment must have the
Preliminary status.
- At least one of the
shipment lines must have a remaining quantity to reserve i.e. a quantity not already
reserved, picked or delivered.
- The parts/handling units must be available in stock. Note that created
transport tasks with destination move to inventory, can be considered as available to reserve depending on
configuration on the site.
System Effects
- The
shipment lines with a remaining quantity to reserve, will be reserved
for the shipment.
- When the shipment is reserved automatically,
a shortage will occur when the full quantity
of a shipment line cannot be reserved.
- When the shipment is reserved automatically, the
optional events defined to happen at reservation in the shipment type will
be executed.
- When the shipment is reserved automatically, the
shipment type decides if the shipment flow should proceed to the next
event.
- If reservation from created transport task is enabled and material from a
created transport task is reserved, then the system tries the best to
keep the reserved material on the same transport task. This will be
possible when you have complete handling units on the transport task or
when the entire stock record is included on the transport task, otherwise
the reserved material is removed from the transport task.
