Enter Transport Route for Removed Serial
Explanation
This activity is used to define a transport route for a serial part. During
its life cycle a serial part can be subject to repairs, modifications or
overhauls. This work usually needs to be executed by skilled workers and/or
special tools or equipment. Therefore, when a repair, modification or overhaul
is required for a serial part, the part has to be shipped out to the location
where the work is to be performed. The location is retrieved from the transport
route connected to the serial part.
Standard routes, which are predefined in basic data, can be used on the
serial part and adjusted according to the required time frame for
transportation. You can also choose to create a new route for a serial part as
and when things happen, i.e., when an unexpected need for transportation occurs.
These ad-hoc transport routes are specific to the serials for which it is
defined, and will not be saved to the standard routes list. If this is to be a
standard route, you will need to enter it manually in basic data.
When each leg of the transport route is finished you need to verify the
details and complete the route leg by selecting the Complete check box.
Note: If a transport route is entered for a serial that is installed in a
serial structure, it will not be possible to complete any route legs until the
serial is removed from the structure (i.e., is a disconnected serial). When the
Complete check box is selected for a route leg a corresponding history
record is generated automatically for it. If the check box is cleared, the
generated history record will be removed automatically. The location code for
the serial is updated in accordance with the latest completed leg of the
transport route.
Prerequisites
- If a standard template route is to be used, it must be defined in basic
data.
- Location codes must be defined in basic data.
- The serial part must exist and contain a defined location.
- The serial cannot have any transport routes that are currently ongoing or active.
System Effects
As a result of this activity, one or more transport routes are defined for
the serial part.

Procedure
Follow this procedure to assign an existing transport route to your serial
part:
- Open the
Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for
your serial.
- Select the required serial part in the graphical object structure.
- Click the Additional Serial Info tab and then click the Transport Route
sub tab.
- In the Route ID field, create a new record (F5). Use the List of
Values to select a valid route.
- Save the record (F12).
- The
Enter Start Time dialog box opens.
- Enter the required start date and time.
- Click OK. The table in the sub tab is updated with the defined time
frame for the selected route.
Follow this procedure to create an ad-hoc transport route for your serial
part:
- Open the
Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for
your serial.
- Select the required serial part in the graphical object structure.
- Click the Additional Serial Info tab and then click the Transport Route
sub tab.
- In the Route ID field, create a new record (F5). Enter a unique
Route ID in this field, and the description for the route in the
Description field.
- Save the record (F12).
- Create a new record in the table (F5).
- In the Route Seq field, enter the sequence number for the route.
- By default, the Arrival Time and Departure Time fields
will display today's date. You can modify these values as per your
requirements. (If a time delay is not expected, the arrival time and
departure time are the same.)
- Enter the code for the required location in the Location Code
field. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- Save the record (F12).
Follow this procedure to re-use a transport route which was previously
connected to your serial part:
- Open the
Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for
your serial.
- Select the required serial part in the graphical object structure.
- Click the Additional Serial Info tab and then click the Transport Route
sub tab.
- From the Route ID list, select the transport route you want.
- Right-click anywhere in the header of the tab, and then click Reuse
Route. The
Enter Start Time dialog box opens.
- Enter the required start date and time.
- Click OK. The table in the sub tab will now be updated with the new
time frame.
