Connect Maintenance Program to Serial
Explanation
This activity is used to connect a maintenance program
to a serial. If a valid active maintenance program is defined for the part
number and revision of the serial, you need to connect the maintenance program
to the serial before you can set the serial to either the In Operation or
Out Of Operation status for the first time.
If access control is established for parts and serials,
you can only work with the serials to which you are granted access. Likewise, if
access control is established for maintenance programs, you can only view and
connect the maintenance programs to which you have access. Access control is
established by setting up access groups with valid users and assigning the
applicable access group to the part or maintenance program to which access
should be restricted.
Prerequisites
- A maintenance program that is valid for the part number, revision and
maintenance group of the serial must have been defined. This maintenance
program must be in the Active status.
- You need to have access to the serial and
maintenance program you wish to work with.
System Effects
As a result of this activity, maintenance programs are connected to the
serials on which it will be performed.

Procedure
Follow this procedure to connect a maintenance program to a serial that is in
the Planned For Operation status:
- Open the Serial Structure Information
window or the Serials window.
- Populate (F2) or query (F3) for the necessary serial.
- Click the General tab if you are
working in the Serial Structure Information window.
- In the Maint Program field, enter the maintenance program for the
serial. Use the List of Values to select a valid value.
- Save the information (F12).
Follow this procedure to connect a maintenance program
to a serial by using the Change Maintenance Program On Serial
assistant:
- Open any one of the following windows or tabs
depending on your work flow:
- Serial Structure Information
- Serial Structure Information/Consist Of
- Serial Structure Information/Multilevel
- Serial Structures
- Serials
- Vehicles
- Define Maintenance Program/Affected
Serials.
- Populate (F2) or query (F3) for the necessary serial.
- Right-click and click Change Maintenance Program. The
Change Maintenance Program On Serial assistant opens.
- In the New Maint. Prog field, enter the ID of the maintenance
program you want to connect to the serial. Click List to select a
valid value.
- If you want to change the maintenance group of the
serial, click List in the New Maint Group field to select and
enter the new maintenance group for the serial.
- Select the Change maintenance program for all serials in structure
check box if you want to update all serials in the structure with the new maintenance program.
- Select the Change maintenance group for all serials in the structure
check box if you want to update all serials in the structure with the new
maintenance group.
- Click Next.
- In the Serials in structure lacking maintenance
programs assistant step you can enter maintenance program information
for the serials in the selected structure.
- Select one of the query options to filter the serials for which you wish
to update maintenance program information. The table will list serials based
on the query selection.
- Select one of the spread options to enter or extend the maintenance
program information to the listed serials.
- If you have chosen to extend the maintenance program and maintenance
group to all listed serials, ensure the following information is entered
correctly:
- In the New Maint Prog field, enter the new maintenance
program that is to be extended to the listed serials. Click List to
select a valid value.
- If the maintenance group is to be updated, enter the new maintenance
group in the New Maint Group field. Click List to select a valid
value.
- Click Spread to extend the information to the listed serials.
Make adjustments if necessary, and then click Save. Click Spread
and Save if you want to extend and save the information immediately.
- If you have chosen to enter the maintenance program and maintenance
group directly in the table, enter the new maintenance program and
maintenance group in the New Maint Prog field and New Maint Group
fields found in the table. Click Save to save the information.
- If you have chosen to extend the maintenance program information that
was entered manually, use one of the options listed in step 13 to save the
information, i.e., Spread, Save, and Spread and Save.
- Click Next (for serials in either the In Operation or
Out Of Operation statuses) or click Finish.
- In the Update values for interval maintenance on given serial
assistant step you can enter or change the start values for the interval
maintenance of a serial(s) in the structure. This is useful for instance when the intervals for the maintenance code
on the old maintenance plan are different to the intervals on the new
maintenance plan and it is necessary to adjust the interval maintenance
values accordingly. The upper table displays the interval maintenance for
the primary operational parameters while the lower table displays all
secondary operational parameters corresponding to the primary operational
parameters.
- In the Value at Maintenance field, enter or change the total
operational value for the part and serial number for which you want to
change interval maintenance values. Note: The following conditions
apply:
- If the value in this field does not match the maintenance interval
in the maintenance plan the system displays a message.
- The value in this field cannot exceed the value after overhaul for
the maintenance triggering operational parameters unless the maintenance
code has the calculation rule set to Special Case. In this case
the value cannot exceed the value total of the serial.
- When a value is entered in this field, values for the fields
Maint Date and Correction Value are suggested automatically
only if the value in the lowest interval for the maintenance code
exceeds either the value total (when the calculation rule is set to
Special Case) or the value after overhaul (Inspection, Overhaul and
Replacement).
- In the Value Total field, enter the total operational value of
the serial at the date of maintenance.
- Click Save to save your changes.
- Click Finish to close the assistant.
Follow this procedure to connect a valid active
maintenance program to one or more affected serials:
- Open the Define Maintenance Program
window.
- Populate (F2) or query (F3) for the active
maintenance program.
- Click the Affected Serials tab to
view all serials affected by this maintenance program.
- Select the serial record, right-click and then
click Set Maintenance Program.
- Verify that the connected maintenance program is
shown in the Maint Program ID, Maint Program Revision and
Maint Program Description fields for the serial record.
