Enter values for acceptance sampling

Explanation

Use this activity to enter values to be used for acceptance sampling when creating the analyses from the control plan.

Standard

• ISO 2859-1:1999 - Sampling procedures for inspection by attributes - Part 1: Sampling schemes indexed by acceptance quality limit (AQL) for lot-by-lot inspection.
• ISO 2859-3:2005 - Sampling procedures for inspection by attributes - Part 3: Skip-lot sampling procedures

Inspection Level

• The inspection level sets the relative amount of inspection. There are three general inspection levels, I, II and III. Unless otherwise specified, level II shall be used. I is used when less discrimination is required and III is used when greater discrimination is required. There are also four additional special levels, S-1, S-2, S-3 and S-4 which may be used when small sample sizes are necessary and larger sampling risks can be tolerated.

Acceptance Quality Limit (AQL)

• The AQL is expressed as percentage of nonconforming items. For a given AQL, the great majority of lots submitted will be accepted if the number of nonconforming items is not greater than the AQL.

Sampling Plans

• With a single sampling plan only one sample is drawn, and acceptance is decided from the number of nonconforming items in that sample. With a double sampling plan, the sample size is smaller. But the number of nonconforming items may fall in between the acceptance and rejection numbers requiring a second sample to be drawn to decide on acceptance or rejection. With a multiple sampling plan, the sample size is even smaller, but up to five consecutive samples can be drawn to decide on acceptance or rejection.

A control plan header must exist.

Procedure

1. Query for the Control Plan for which you want to enter the values for acceptance sampling in the Control Plan - Manufacturing, Control Plan - Purchasing or Control Plan - Template window.
2. From Control Plan - Manufacturing or Control Plan - Inventory window, click the Detail tab. From Control Plan - Template window you will find the fields in the following steps in the header section.
3. Enter a standard in Standard drop-down list.
4. Enter an inspection level in the Inspection Level drop-down list.
5. Enter a value for Acceptance Quality Limit (AQL) in the AQL field.
6. Enter a value for sampling plan in the Sampling Plan drop-down list.
7. Select Qualification for Skip Lot Sampling Approved check box if sampling plans Skip Lot-Single or Skip Lot-Double is selected.
8. Save the information.
