Handle Changes

Explanation

When setting a new baseline, the values for baseline cost and hours are set to be identical to the budget cost and hours. Similarly, the baseline dates are set to be identical to the early start and finish dates. However it is common that the planned values or early dates will continue to be updated even though a baseline has been set, and changed or new activities will be marked as changed. Perform this activity to find which activities have been changed after the last baseline revision has been created, in order to assess if a new baseline needs to be set or if there are other consequences of the changes.

Subsequently, when setting a new baseline, the new baseline revision will be shown on all such activities which had been changed or added. This field gives information about which baseline revision the activity first appears with its current baseline values or baseline dates.

Prerequisites

The project must be in the Approved or Started status.

System Effects

The Activity Changed check box will be automatically selected if an activity is added or changed after a baseline has been set.
When setting a new baseline, all activities that have been added or changed since the last baseline revision was set, will receive the new baseline revision number as its value in the Set in Baseline field. The Activity Changed check box will than be cleared.

Procedure

When changing or adding activities:

Make a change so that a value for an activity planned cost or hours is changed. Alternatively, change the activity early start or finish date.
Add a new activity.
Observe that the Activity Changed check box is now selected on the changed or new activities.

Note: If no baseline revision has yet been set, all activities will have the Activity Changed check box selected.

When setting a new baseline revision:

For all activities which had the Activity Changed check box selected, the new baseline revision value is shown in the Set in Baseline field.
The Activity Changed check box is cleared for all the project activities.
