External project planning tools are commonly used in addition to IFS/Project. In the project management area there are several best-of-breed tools for project planning and scheduling. IFS Applications offers the possibility to exchange information with several of these planning tools.
The integration to external planning tools focuses on the transfer of information necessary for project planning. The transferring of data is conducted on demand and can be executed in both directions. The exact information and data that is transferred depends on the specific external planning tool with which IFS/Project is integrating. It is for example possible to transfer the following objects and information between the external planning tools and IFS Applications: projects, sub projects, activities, dates, milestones, progress, float, costs and hours. Also for each transfer, it can be configured whether certain data types should be transferred, including calendars, dependencies, constraints, resources and resource assignments.
To maintain the integrity of the IFS Project, the transferring of data from external planning tools to IFS Applications is more restrictive than when transferring data from IFS to an external planning tool.
For more details on fields and data types that can be transferred to and from IFS Applications for the available external planning tools, please read the descriptions below.
