Create Production Line
Explanation
Use this function to enter new production lines and connect them to an inventory
location. This mandatory task is to be performed by a system administrator or an equivalent person.
By connecting the production line to an inventory location, you define the location from which the system is allowed to backflush material. Only components of the parts the production line manufactures, can be issued from these inventory locations.
If these locations do not have sufficient material,
you can reserve components in the main inventory. Whether you are allowed to issue material other than the inventory location defined in the production line is determined by the option values in the Outside Reserve/Issue field.
You cannot reserve components at an inventory location linked to another production line.
Prerequisites
This activity has the following prerequisites:
- You must have created a site to which you can connect the production line.
- If you want
to use a calendar for the production line other than the site calendar, this calendar must
be defined before you create the production line.
- The inventory location you link to a
production line must be of the type Production Line. You specify this when you enter
inventory locations in the inventory module.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- A new production line is created.
- The production line is associated with an inventory location.
- The inventory at the linked inventory location is not available for
reservations from other production lines.
- The production line information will be available for production
scheduling.
