Buffered Parts

Evaluating inventory parts is the first step in a DDMRP implementation. Main step in the process is to identify which parts are a candidate in defining as buffered parts. Component identification includes:

• Whether the component is a critical component
• Frequency of using the component in different structures
• Cost of the component
• Unprotected lead time of the component

Primary focus is to evaluate shared components which exists in many structures with a considerable unprotected lead time. It is necessary to identify whether this part is a potential item to be stocked, in order to reduce lead time or the stock level of the parent parts.
