Modifications are defined in VIM and then transferred to IFS/Manufacturing. Modifications are defined for 'real' parts and each modification has one or more affected parts. An affected part can be either the part for which the modification was defined or a component of that part. For each part affected by a modification, a set of repair codes should be defined. These repair codes specify all the possible steps required to perform the modification. Manually modified repair codes will be indicated by the Manual Modification check box and the affected part is the same as the assigned part number for modification.

The set of repair codes can vary from one affected part to another and also depending on the compliance type of the modification. All modifications have a compliance type of Terminating Action, i.e., the performance of the modification. The repair codes of compliance type Terminating Action specify the steps for performing the modification. A modification can also have other compliance types defined for performing initial or repeated inspections to see if the modification should be performed (Initial Inspection and Continued Inspection), as well as for decomplying with the modification (Decomply).

The data you specify in this window is used later in work scope execution during disposition. When a disposition shop order line for a part affected by a modification is released, the repair codes associated with that discrepancy code-part combination are made available for the user to select.

If the modification control option for the part is set to Exclude Allowed, the user can pick the repair codes to be used for the line in question. Otherwise, the user will not be able to exclude any of the repair codes. The modification control option can be set in either the Part Attributes window or the Inventory Part/Manufacturing tab.
