Supply Serial Part Information
Explanation
This activity is used to supply serial parts with fleet
management-specific information. Each serialized part is automatically created when a serialized engineering part is
created.
The following must be defined prior to defining maintenance data for
the serials of the new serial part:
- Operational parameters
- Maintenance groups
- Whether the serial part is a vehicle part
- Whether the serial part is a life limited
part
When serial parts are defined, the Life Limited
field does not display any value. This field must be updated to
Life Limited or Not Life Limited before these parts
can be used in an active template structure. Build
the serial template structures for the
top template parts to enable the stress ratings to be defined for the top template
part. These stress ratings will be valid for all the levels below if there are
no other stress ratings
defined for the lower levels. When the template structure is set to the Active
status, the system will check whether the
Life Limited field is set to Life Limited or Not Life
Limited for the serial part.
The following conditions exist for the serial part, based on the value in the
Life Limited field:
-
A serial for a serial part that is defined as
Not
Life Limited cannot be used as a life limited part.
-
A serial for a serial part that is defined as
Life
Limited can be used as life limited and not life limited. The template determines
whether the serial
part in the actual position is treated as life limited or not life limited.
-
A serial that is initially registered as a
Life Limited part can be changed to a Not Life Limited part. A serial that is initially registered as
a Not Life Limited part cannot be changed to a Life Limited
part.
Note:
Revisions are automatically created when new engineering part
revisions are created.
The
following must have been defined for the serial part revision prior to
defining maintenance data for the serials:
-
Fault
deferral codes
-
Maintenance
codes
-
Maintenance
programs
-
Condition limits
The
following should be defined as soon as the new serial part revision is
used in a template structure:
-
Life
limits
-
Task Cards
-
Modifications
Prerequisites
- A serialized part must have been created in IFS/PDM-Configuration.
- A primary operational parameter must have been defined for
the serialized part.
System Effects
- The serial part can be used for building serial
structure templates.
- Life limited parts are registered in the system and
can be used in serial structure templates.
- A new revision is created and maintenance data can
be registered, either manually or by using the
Copy from another
Revision
assistant.

Procedure
Follow this procedure to define whether the serial part is a vehicle part or
not or whether it is a life limited part or not:
- Open the Serial Parts window and query (F3) for the
necessary serial part. You can also perform this procedure from the
Serial Part/General tab.
- If the serials with this part number are vehicles, select the Vehicle
Part check box.
- In the Life Limited field, select whether the serials with this
part number are life limited parts or not. Valid values are Life Limited
and Not Life Limited.
- Save the information (F12).
Follow this procedure if you want to define engineering parts as VIM serials
parts. This procedure is useful if you have been running IFS/PDM-Configuration
for some time before installing Fleet and Asset Management,
and want to create the engineering parts that already exist as serial parts in
Fleet and Asset Management:
- Open the Serial Parts window. You can also perform this
procedure from the Serial Part window.
- Right-click and click Copy Engineering Parts. All serialized
engineering parts already defined in IFS/PDM-Configuration will be created
automatically as serial parts in Fleet and Asset Management.
- An information message is shown with the number of parts that have been
copied.
Follow this procedure to manually define maintenance information for the
serial part. When the maintenance data is very different from the other part
revisions the maintenance information must be entered manually:
- Open the
Serial Part Revision window
and query (F3) for the necessary serial part revision.
- Click the Maint Codes tab and create a new record (F5).
- In the Maint Code field, enter a maintenance
code by selecting a suitable value from the List of Values.
- Save the information (F12).
- Click the
Condition Limit tab and create a new record (F5).
- In the Condition Category field, enter a
condition category. Use the List of Values to select a suitable value.
- In the Condition Code, Cond Limit Description, and
Standard Value fields, enter the name, description, and standard
value for the new condition code respectively.
- Enter a measure unit in the Condition UoM
field by selecting a suitable value form the List of Values.
- Complete the
information by entering warning, danger, and change limits in the respective
fields.
- Save the information (F12).
- Click the Task Cards tab
or open the Task Card window.
- Create a new record (F5).
- Provide the required information to create a new task card.
- Save the information (F12).
- Open the Task Cards per
Maintenance Code window and query (F3) for the necessary part revision and maintenance
code.
- Click the Task Cards tab and create a new
record (F5).
- In the Task Card ID field, enter the task card you want to connect to the maintenance code. Use the List of Values to
select a valid task card. When
the task card ID is selected, the
task card information appears automatically.
- Save the information (F12).
- Open the
Condition Monitoring Program
window and query (F3) for
the necessary part revision.
-
Click the Task
Cards
tab and then click the Task Cards sub tab
- Create a
new record (F5).
- In the Task Card ID field, use the List of
Values to select the task card to connect to the condition limit. When the
task card ID is
selected, the
task card information appears automatically.
- Save the information (F12).
