Remove Structure Position
Explanation
This activity is used to remove an existing structure
position from a template structure. A structure position can be removed from a
template structure as a result of an embodied modification or an internal
requirement, which is aimed at better controlling the template structure by further
detailing the configuration.
In the
Remove Structure Position dialog box,
you can select whether you want to set the structure position to obsolete.
You can only remove a structure position if the structure position is not used
by any serial structure.
With the Access Control
feature, the
following will occur to the access of the part used in the structure that is to
be removed in the template structure,
- If the part only exists in one structure position, the parts access rights
will be removed when the structure position is removed.
- If the part exists in more than one structure position in the template,
access rights will not be updated when the structure position is removed.
- If the parts serial number is removed before the structure position is
removed, the serial will keep the current access rights until it is
installed in a structure.
Prerequisites
- A template structure with the Active status must exist.
- For the structure position to be removed all serials and parts based on
the template structure must first be removed.
- In addition, if a structure position becomes invalid as a result of a
modification the structure position that is to be removed must have been
entered on the modification (while it is in the Preliminary status).
For more information, refer the
Define the Structure Position to Remove
activity.
System Effects
- The structure position is removed from the template structure and can no
longer be used in serial structures.
- If the value of the AUTO_TRANSFER_STR object
property is set to TRUE, and the structure position has been
transferred to manufacturing/prepared for transfer, the corresponding entry
will be removed automatically from the temporary transfer table (Template
Structure Prepared for Transfer to Manufacturing/Temporary Transfer).
Note: Corresponding manufacturing structures will not be updated.
- Empty structure positions that
correspond with the removed position will be removed automatically from all
serial structures using the template from which the position was removed.
Empty structure positions refer to the structure positions where expected
serials or parts are missing from the serial structure.
- Access groups for the parts will be updated.
- Access groups for existing serials will be updated.
- If running work scopes in Manufacturing are using the structure
position, the serials included in this position must be handled manually for
such work scopes. For instance, assume the serial is included on a
disposition shop order. One way of finding the disposition shop order is to
search on the position part number in the Shop Orders window.
Some options for manual handling of the position is to set a disposition code to remove
material demand or to exclude the component from maintenance levels. On assembly shop orders, remove the reference
to position part from the material line or remove the corresponding material
line, since this structure position is no longer valid.
