Configure Minimum Configuration

Explanation

This activity is used to set the minimum structure as indicated by the defined minimum configuration.

The minimum configuration is important for the building of a template structure. Through the minimum configuration you can specify the minimum structure that can be set operational. Consequently, when you disconnect a part that is included in the minimum configuration, the structure (vehicle) will not be operational. If however you are required to disconnect a minimum configuration part from the structure, you need to replace it with another part before the structure can be made operational.   

Note that minimum configured parts in the structure of non-serialized parts will not affect the operational status of corresponding serials structures. Only the first level of non-serialized parts are considered in serials structures.

Prerequisites

• The top part in the new structure must be defined before an import or copy can be performed.
• A sub-part in the structure can only be included in the minimum configuration if its higher assembly is part of the minimum configuration
• To include a sub part in the minimum configuration, the parent part must be part of the minimum configuration, if the parent part is not configured in a separate template.

System Effects

As a result of this activity, you will not be able to set the serial structure operational if one or more parts which are included in the minimum configuration of the template structure are disconnected.

Procedure

1. Open the Serial Structure Template or the Template Structure Navigator window.
2. In the Part Number field, query (F3) for your template structure.
3. Click the Consist Of tab. The Minimum Configuration check box will be selected for the parts that are included in the minimum configuration of your structure.
4. If you need to move down the structure, select the row that contains the part, right-click, and then click Next Level until the required parts are displayed in the table of the tab. Alternatively, you can choose to perform this procedure by using the Serial Structure Template/Multilevel tab.
5. To unassign a part from the minimum configuration, clear the Minimum Configuration check box for this part record or right-click and then click Reverse Minimum Config to automatically clear the check box.
6. To assign a part to the minimum configuration, select the Minimum Configuration check box for this part record or right-click and then click Reverse Minimum Config to automatically select the check box.
7. Save the record (F12).
