Specify Scheduling Settings for Advanced Planning Board

Explanation

This activity is used to define the different default time frames used by the Advanced Planning Board (APB) when scheduling operations for a site. You also need to define how the APB should assign load to the different resources.

By specifying a transport calendar you can exclude non-working days when calculating the transport time. The transportation calendar takes effect only when shop order operations are scheduled and when the preceding operation or operations have a defined transportation time.

Prerequisites

This activity requires that the Advanced Planning Board must be enabled for the site.

System Effects

As a result of this activity, the values you specify are used by the Advanced Planning Board to schedule operations.

Procedure

  1. Open the Scheduling Basic Data window and query for the site you want to specify scheduling settings for.
  2. Click the Shop Order Scheduling/General tab.
  3. Make sure that the Enable Constraint Based Scheduling check box and the Use Advanced Planning Board option are selected
  4. In the Scheduling Horizon field, enter the number of days that the APB should consider when scheduling. The default value is 365. You can set any value up to five years but shorter time frames will provide better performance.
  5. In the Scheduling Start Point (Hours from Present Time) field, enter a default start time for the first operation in the schedule. This optional value is set to 8 by default.
  6. In the Priority Adjustment Factor Weight field, enter a value to indicate the weight used for prioritization of shop orders. The default value is 1.
  7. In the Transport Calendar field, enter the calendar that you want to use or select one from the List of Values. This calendar will be used to calculate the scheduled transport time. When scheduling a shop order operation, the scheduled transport time will be used.
Note: To view the transport calendar in the Advanced Planning Board, click Schedule Settings on the Settings menu. The Schedule Settings window opens. To view details of the transport calendar, double-click the transport calendar object. For a graphical representation of the transport calendar, drag the transport calendar object to object table area.
To view the scheduled transport time of a single shop order operation, select the shop order operation object, right-click and then click Show. The Operations window appears. Click the Show Contents tab.
  8. In the Sequencing Horizon field, enter the number of days to be used when sequencing orders. The default value is 10.
  9. In the Setup Optimization area, select one of the options to determine what factors will be used by the APB to optimize setup.
  10. In the Adjust Schedule area, select the Allow Past Due Load in Adjust Schedule check box, if you want to keep preceding operations of each of the reported/scrapped operations in the same operation structures in the past when the Adjust Schedule logic is executed. When the check box is not selected, the preceding operations of each of the reported/scrapped operations in the same operation structures will be scheduled from current time.
  11. Save the information.
