Define Answer Options

Explanation

This activity is used to define alternative answer options to questions. Answer options are grouped by an alternative ID which can be linked to questions in the Survey/Questions tab or Survey/Question Detail tab . Alternative lists can only be linked to questions of Multi-Choice type.

Participants can only answer questions of Multi-Choice type by selecting one of the answer options available. The number of answer options that can be selected depends on the alternative type entered for the alternative ID. If the alternative type is Categorized or Scaling, only one answer option can be selected.

Procedure

1. Open the Answer Options window and click New in the header part of the window.
2. Enter an identity in the Alternative ID field and a description in the Description field.
3. Select the alternative type from the list.
4. If you have specified the alternative type as Multi-Choice, enter the number of answers that can be selected. Note that this number should be at least one. For other alternative types, the number of selectable answers cannot be more than one.  
5. In the table of the window, click New and enter the answer number and the answer description in their respective fields. Repeat this step to enter all the required answer options.
