Check On Exposure Modifications

Explanation

Use this activity to generate a list of valid On Exposure Modifications that are included in a customer modification baseline. Ideally, this activity should be performed during the work scope definition process, in order to evaluate which On Exposure Modification(s) should be included in the work scope as per the defined maintenance level settings. Note: Depending on the agreement with the customer, you may need to obtain customer approval before including an On Exposure Modification to the work scope.

The following conditions need to be fulfilled before an On Exposure Modification is determined as valid, and the corresponding record is displayed on the report:

When you initiate the work scope definition process for your customer and overhaul object, you need to specify maintenance levels that expose the affected parts for these pre-defined set of events. As a result of this, you may now need to evaluate if the additional On Exposure Modifications should be included in the work scope. (An On Exposure Modification can contain a number of affected parts in which the assigned part is included.)

The list of valid On Exposure Modifications is generated based on the parts in the expected serial structure that will be exposed by the current maintenance level settings. Since the actual parts to be serviced are not known until disassembly, this list will include On Exposure Modifications that are defined for both the prime exposed part and all valid alternates. It is recommended that you analyze this report, and perform necessary adjustments on the work scope, before the work scope execution phase is to begin.

The following actions need to be performed when On Exposure Modifications are to be included in the work scope:

  1. The relevant modification records must be defined for the work scope in the Maintenance Event Summary window.
  2. You may need to adjust current maintenance level settings for the work scope, so that the parts affected by these On Exposure Modifications will be exposed.
  3. When the maintenance level settings are adjusted, it could expose different parts for which On Exposure Modifications have been defined. Therefore, the Check On Exposure Modifications activity should be performed once more.
    It is necessary to perform several such cycles till no new On Exposure Modifications are revealed, after which you can re-release the work scope and initiate the work scope execution phase.

Procedure

Use one of the following options to print the On Exposure Modification - Report:

Option 01:

  1. Open the Maintenance Event Summary window.
  2. In the Work Order field, query (F3) for the work order created for your customer and overhaul object.
  3. Right-click anywhere in the header, and then click On Exposure Modification - Report. The Print Report dialog box opens.
  4. Click Preview to verify the information shown on the On Exposure Modification - Report before you continue.
  5. Print the required report.

Option 02:

  1. Open the Define Work Scope window.
  2. In the Work Order No field, query (F3) for the work order associated with the required work scope.
  3. Right-click anywhere in the header, and then click On Exposure Modification - Report. The Print Report dialog box opens.
  4. Click Preview to verify the information shown on the On Exposure Modification - Report before you continue.
  5. Print the required report.

Use the following procedure to add new On Exposure Modification events to the work scope:

  1. Open the Maintenance Event Summary window.
  2. In the Work Order field, query (F3) for the work order created for your customer and overhaul object.
  3. Click the Modification tab, and select the All Not Complied option in the Baseline Modifications area. All baseline modifications that have not been complied with thus far will be displayed on the available table.
  4. Select the Include In Work Scope? check box for the On Exposure Modification(s) you want to add to the work scope.
  5. Save your changes (F12).
  6. Right-click anywhere in the header, and then click Define Shop Visit Work Scope. The Define Work Scope window opens with details of the work scope associated with your work order.
  7. In order to proceed with the activity, you need to approve the events you have added to the work scope. To do this, right-click anywhere in the header, and then click Approve All Maintenance Events. An information message appears requesting approval of the event, click OK.
  8. Click the Define Work Scope tab. The graphical object structure shown on this tab can be expanded to show all components for your overhaul object structure. Select the top part in the structure, right-click, and then click, Expand Descendants.
  9. Next, right-click on the revision node for this top part, and then click Calculate Suggested Maintenance Level and Apply Baseline. An information message appears requesting approval of the event, click OK. As a result, the part records in the Assign Maintenance Level sub tab is updated with the calculated assigned maintenance level.
  10. Starting from the bottom lowest sub-assembly in the product structure and working up, specify the maintenance level for each part.  

Note: You can make use of the information displayed in the tables of this tab to guide your selection:

In the upper table, the maintenance levels defined for the selected sub-assembly is displayed. If the Expose All Affected Parts check box is selected, the defined maintenance level will expose all components that are considered parts affected by a modification or LLP (life limited part).
In the lower table, the component parts for the selected sub-assembly is displayed. If the Mx Event Connected check box is selected, the corresponding component part is a modification affected part.

The parts in the lowest levels of the product structure (also called leaf parts) will not be displayed, as these parts do not require maintenance level settings.  

In the upper table, select the row that contains the required maintenance level, right-click, and then click Set Maintenance Level. You are not required to set maintenance levels for sub-assemblies, if these sub-assemblies do not contain any component parts which are considered modification affected parts.

  1. Right-click anywhere in the header of the Define Work Scope window, and then click Release Work Scope. An information message appears requesting approval of the event, click OK.
    If an error message is displayed, stating that the work scope could not be released and errors were created, click the Define Work Scope/Define Work Scope/Log Details sub tab to view the generated records. If such an occurrence arises, you need to set maintenance levels for the product structure once more. Note that this process may need to be performed a number of times until you are able to release the work scope.
  2. To ensure that you have not missed including any On Exposure Modification to the work scope, repeat Option 01 or Option 02.
