Enter Part Class

Explanation

Use this activity to group similar parts into a common part class. This optional task is to be performed by a system administrator or equivalent person.

Part classes allow you to organize or classify engineering parts, together with main groups and standard names. A part class is the second most rough classification of engineering parts, main group is roughest classification. Examples of part classes are: cables, hardware, mechanics, or software.

Part classes allow you to query for all parts categorized in a class. For example, you can query for all part classes used in a report. We advise you to use the categorizing possibilities in order to build up a hierarchical structure of parts instead of a totally flat structure using only standard names.

You can also connect document requirements to a part class. This ensures that these documents must be generated for all parts belonging to this particular part class.

A part class can also be created from an asset class, if Asset Design is installed together with PDM.
