Build Project Item Configuration Structure

Explanation

This activity is used to create a configuration for a configurable part. When creating the configuration, you define the characteristics and options the customer wants when you sell or build it.

A configuration is a unique combination of characteristics and options that is used in conjunction with a configurable part. The configuration of a part can be initiated in IFS/Project Delivery, IFS/Manufacturing Standards, IFS/Customer Orders, IFS/CRM, IFS/Shop Order, and IFS/Dynamic Order Processing. It can also be initiated by an external application.

The status of the configuration is always set to Incomplete at the start of a configuration. The status will automatically be set to Complete when all mandatory and optional characteristics have a valid option value. When the status is Complete, connected project item lines can be processed further.

Characteristics set to hidden in basic data can be displayed during configuration if needed by using Show hidden rows.

If sales rules are connected to the configure part and revision, the sales rule engine is executed automatically when you open the window in create or edit mode. All sales rules are then executed upon any change of characteristic or option value in the configuration section. Use the Sales Rule Logger dialog box to analyze the sales rule evaluation. Use the Latest Changes dialog box to analyze the characteristics added, removed and modified with regard to the latest change in the configuration.

The following icons will be displayed in the Project Product/Item tab , Project Items and Project Item Navigator windows to indicate an incomplete configuration or changes in the configuration after the last build structure action had been performed, relevant to a project item.

Prerequisites

• IFS/Configuration Back Office and IFS/Configuration Characteristic should be installed. A configurable part and its rules should have been entered. An order or order line with a configurable part that does not yet have a configuration specification should be entered.
• A part configuration revision in the Released status and effective for the required date should exist.
• The configuration status should be Completed the relevant project item.

System Effects

• A configuration is connected to the project item. If the combination of characteristics and options is new, a new configuration ID is created. If not, the configuration ID for the defined combination is used.
• For configurable parts, a record for the configuration is created in IFS/Inventory.
• A project item structure will be created which will be visible in the Project Product or Project Item Navigator window.

Procedure

1. If you are on the window in which the configurable project item is displayed (Project Product/Item, Project Item Navigator/General, Project Item Navigator/Consist of, Project Items) right-click, point to Configuration and then click Build Structure.
2. The project item structure will be created and operation lines will be copied into the Project Item Navigator/Project Operations tab. The structure can also be built when you confirm the completion of the configuration.
