Define Serial Object For Design Object
Explanation
This activity is used to create a serial object and connect it to an
equipment object in IFS/Equipment. A part number is added to the design object
and a serial number is assigned to that part number. The design object's design
status is changed and the serial object is created and connected to the
equipment object.
Prerequisites
- IFS/Service and Maintenance and IFS/Part Catalog must be installed.
- Serials should be allowed for the Object Level of the design object
class, for which the serial object is being created, in
Equipment
Basic Data.
System Effects
- A value for the part number and serial number is saved on the design object. By
changing the design object's design status, a serial part is created in the
serial part catalog, a serial object and an equipment object are created in
IFS/Equipment. The serial object is connected to the parent equipment object.
- History events are logged on the design object for the creation of the
serial object, and for the serial object connection to the equipment object.

Procedure
- Open the Design Object
or
Design Objects window.
- Search for the design object for which the serial object needs to be
created.
- In the Part Number field, enter the part number of the
part to associate with the design object. Use the List of Values to select a
suitable value.
- In the Serial Number field, enter the serial number to
create a new serial to associate with the design object. You can also use
the List of Values to select an existing serial number.
- Click Save. This generates a serial object ID. The new serial object will be displayed in the
Serial Object ID field. The
value in the Serial Object ID field can be modified and saved if
necessary. At
this point, the serial part information is saved only on the design object in IFS/Asset
Design.
- Right-click, click Status and
then click Set Planned for Operation or Set Completed. This
changes the design status, creates a serial part in the serial part catalog,
creates a serial object and an equipment object in IFS/Equipment, and
relates the serial object to the parent equipment object.
